Haverhill Coke is building a cogeneration facility that will use waste heat to generate electricity.  Waste heat from all coke ovens at the facility will be directed through heat recovery steam generators to generate steam.  Steam from the first set of 100 ovens will be sent to Sunoco Chemicals.  Steam from the second set of 100 ovens will be directed to a steam turbine that will drive a generator to produce electricity.  The facility will normally generate 61 MW, but will have a maximum capacity of 75 MW.  A request to transfer the certificate from Sun Coke Company to Haverhill North Coke Company was approved by the Board on March 20, 2006.  Commercial operation began on December 1, 2008.
