Ohio Power Siting Board Approves Construction of New Electric Transmission Line

COLUMBUS, OH (April 27, 2004) – The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) today approved the construction of a 138-kilovolt (kV) electric transmission line in Franklin County.  American Electric Power (AEP) will own and operate the 3.24 mile transmission line. The line will connect AEP’s Davidson and Dublin substations.

The Davidson-Dublin electric transmission line will follow an underground route parallel to the I-270 right-of-way. The route was agreed to by AEP, the city of Dublin, OPSB Staff, Neighbors for Responsible Powerline Placement, and Duke Realty. The route was found by OPSB Staff to present minimal environmental impact. In addition, the witnesses who testified at a public hearing held in Dublin on March 29, 2004 supported the selected route.

The new transmission line will enhance AEP’s existing transmission network in the Dublin area. Construction of the project is expected to begin in June 2004. The projected cost is approximately $15 million.

The 11-member OPSB, which reviews applications for construction of large electric and natural gas facilities in Ohio, includes representatives of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, state departments of Development, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Health, the Ohio General Assembly and the public. The Chairman of the PUCO also chairs the Ohio Power Siting Board.

Additional information regarding this project is available on the OPSB Web site at www.OPSB.ohio.gov.
