OPSB schedules local hearing for proposed AEP transmission line in Washington County

COLUMBUS, OHIO (April 9, 2018) – The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) will hold a hearing to allow the public to express their views about AEP Ohio Transmission Company’s (AEP Ohio Transco) proposal to build a new 138 kilovolt electric transmission line in eastern Washington County. The local public hearing is scheduled as follows:

June 4, 2018, at 6 p.m.
Marietta Public Library
615 5th St.
Marietta, Ohio 45750

The proposed Bell Ridge-Devola Transmission Line would extend approximately 10 miles from the proposed Bell Ridge Substation in Lawrence Township, west through Fearing Township, to the proposed Devola Substation in Muskingum Township. AEP Ohio Transco has proposed a preferred and an alternate route for the project, each of which would require approximately 100-foot-wide permanent right-of-way. The company anticipates using approximately 80-foot tall steel H-frame support structures.

Pending approval from the OPSB, AEP Ohio Transco proposes to commence construction of the project in fall 2019 and to place the new transmission line in service by summer 2021 at an estimated cost of approximately $12 million. The project is a component of AEP Ohio Transco’s Southeast Ohio Area Improvement Program to improve electric service and reliability for customers in the region.

The adjudicatory hearing in this proceeding will begin at 10 a.m. on June 18, 2018, at the offices of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, Hearing Room 11-D, 180 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Additional information regarding the proposed Bell Ridge-Devola Transmission Line Project is available on the OPSB website at www.OPSB.ohio.gov in case number 17-1907-EL-BTX.
