11-2754-EL-BSB: Clinic Hospital Substation Project, Cuyahoga County

Case No.:  11-2754-EL-BSB
Project:     Clinic Hospital Substation Project
Company:  American Transmission Systems, Inc.
Location:   Cuyahoga County
Status:       Approved

The Applicants propose to construct a new 138 kV transmission switching substation in the City of Cleveland.  The substation is needed to provide increased electrical reliability and to support load growth for the Cleveland Clinic’s main campus.  The Preferred and Alternate Sites are currently being used as parking lots.  The Preferred Site is 2.8 acres and the Alternate Site is 3.4 acres.  Both sites are owned by the Cleveland Clinic.  The substation would also contain transformers to support a non-jurisdictional 36 kV distribution line that would run underground to the hospital.  The substation’s interconnection was processed under a Letter of Notification filing (ref: 12-2397-EL-BLN).  The staff report was filed on October 30, 2012.  The public hearing was held on November 14, 2012, and the adjudicatory hearing commenced on November 27, 2012.

The Board approved this project at the December 17, 2012 Board meeting.
